Freed Veterinary Hospital: COVID-19 Statement

March 16, 2020

The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic presents both personal and professional challenges for many, including pet owners like you. We hope you, your family, and pets remain safe and healthy during this time. We want to inform you of our measures to ensure continued care for your pets while maintaining a safe environment for our clients and staff.

Our hospital has always prioritized cleanliness and disinfection. Following CDC recommendations, we've intensified our cleaning frequency and scope to safeguard everyone's health. We continue emphasizing the importance of handwashing hygiene to our staff and clients, providing necessary facilities for hand cleaning, and encouraging unwell staff members to stay home.

If You've Been Exposed to COVID-19 and Need Pet Care:

Clients who've traveled to high-risk areas, been exposed to symptomatic or confirmed COVID-19 cases, or tested positive themselves should avoid visiting the hospital unless it's a pet emergency.

For routine pet care (annual exams, vaccines, etc.), we request you call us to discuss rescheduling. If an appointment is medically necessary, please arrange for a healthy individual to bring your pet.

If Your Pet Needs Care and You Haven't Been Exposed:

We remain operational for sick pets or routine care. We recommend:

  • Maintaining distance in the waiting area.
  • Optionally waiting in your car after check-in; we'll text you when ready.
  • Limiting the number of people accompanying each pet.
  • Using hand sanitizer or washing hands in our restrooms.

Coronavirus Impact on Pets:

  • Can pets get COVID-19? There's limited evidence of pets contracting COVID-19, and no evidence suggesting transmission from pets to humans.
  • If your pet shows signs of illness, like coughing or sneezing, contact us immediately. These signs are typically related to common pet illnesses, not COVID-19.
  • Pets should not wear masks, as there's no evidence they protect pets from diseases, and masks may cause distress.
  • Testing pets for COVID-19 is currently unnecessary for healthy, unexposed pets.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in these unusual times. Your commitment to your pets' health and wellbeing is crucial, and we're here to support you in every way we can.
