Finding Answers toProtect Your, Pet’s Health
When your pet is sick or injured, they can’t explain what’s wrong, but our diagnostic tools help speak on their behalf. At Freed Veterinary Hospital, we combine your observations, a thorough physical exam, and a full range of diagnostic services to uncover the source of your pet’s symptoms and create a precise, effective treatment plan.
Why Diagnostics Matter
Pets are often masters at hiding pain or discomfort. That’s why diagnostic testing plays such an important role in veterinary medicine. If your pet’s condition isn’t immediately apparent after an exam, we may recommend targeted diagnostics to better understand what’s going on beneath the surface.
Our Diagnostic Services
Laboratory Testing
We offer both in-house and send-out lab testing, including complete blood counts, organ function panels, urinalysis, and infectious disease screening. In-house “point-of-care” tests deliver fast results, allowing us to begin treatment right away when needed. For more specialized testing, we partner with trusted reference laboratories.
Diagnostic Imaging
Our digital X-rays and ultrasound imaging allow us to visualize internal structures with precision. These tools help diagnose conditions like heart and lung disease, gastrointestinal blockages, tumors, urinary and gallstones, fluid accumulation, and joint issues. In most cases, gentle restraint is all that’s needed, though sedation may be recommended to keep your pet comfortable.
Microscopic Examinations
Using samples such as ear swabs, skin scrapings, or fine needle aspirates of masses, we examine cellular and tissue details under the microscope. This helps us detect infections, parasites, inflammation, and abnormal growths early and accurately.
Ocular Testing
When your pet is experiencing eye discomfort or vision changes, we perform specialized tests such as the Schirmer Tear Test (to measure tear production), fluorescein staining (to identify corneal injuries), and tonometry (to measure eye pressure and screen for glaucoma).
Collaborative, Compassionate Care
We know it can feel overwhelming when your pet is unwell. Our team will explain the purpose of any recommended test and help you make informed decisions every step of the way. Once we have results, we’ll walk you through the findings and treatment options so you know exactly what to expect.
