Emergency and Urgent Care in Hampton, VA
Our team is here when your pet needs immediate medical attention, offering compassionate, skilled care for emergencies and urgent health concerns.
Rapid, Compassionate Care WhenEvery Second Counts
Medical emergencies are unpredictable, but having a trusted veterinary team on your side can make all the difference. At Freed Veterinary Hospital, we are prepared to provide fast, skilled emergency and urgent care when your pet needs immediate attention.
Whether your pet is struggling to breathe, showing signs of distress, or simply “not acting right,” we are equipped to assess, stabilize, and treat urgent health concerns with calm expertise and compassion.
What to Expect During an Emergency Visit
When you arrive, our team will begin with a triage assessment to quickly evaluate your pet’s condition. We check for:
- Level of consciousness
- Breathing difficulties or oxygen deprivation
- Circulatory stability (such as pale gums, weak pulses, or rapid heart rate)
- Pain level and outward signs of trauma or distress
If your pet is unstable or in critical condition, we may request immediate permission to perform CPR and will begin life-saving interventions with your consent. Critically ill patients will be moved directly into the treatment area for evaluation and emergency care.
Initial Stabilization and Care
For pets in urgent condition, our veterinary team may begin stabilization procedures such as:
- IV catheter placement and fluid therapy
- Oxygen supplementation
- Pain relief and supportive medications
Once your pet is stable, we will recommend a personalized diagnostic plan. This may include imaging (X-rays or ultrasound) and laboratory testing (bloodwork or urinalysis) to help us determine the cause and severity of your pet’s condition and guide the next steps in treatment.
Coordination and Referral, When Needed
In rare cases where advanced care is necessary beyond the scope of our facility, we will help coordinate a referral to a trusted specialty or 24-hour emergency center. We will also ensure that your primary veterinarian is kept informed of your pet’s condition and treatment at every stage.
