In-House Laboratory in Hampton, VA
With our in-house laboratory, we can perform vital tests quickly and efficiently, delivering accurate results that help us make informed decisions about your pet’s care.
Fast, AccurateTesting for Faster Answers
When your pet isn’t feeling well, time matters. At Freed Veterinary Hospital, our in-house laboratory allows us to run critical diagnostic tests quickly, often delivering results within minutes. This means your veterinarian can begin treatment right away, without waiting days for lab results to return from an external facility.
Why Onsite Lab Testing Matters
During a sudden illness or emergency, having access to real-time diagnostic information can make a life-saving difference. Our advanced in-house lab technology supports faster diagnoses, more timely treatment, and greater peace of mind for you as a pet parent.
What We Can Test In-House
Complete Blood Cell Counts (CBC)
This test measures white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. It helps detect infections, inflammation, anemia, dehydration, immune disorders, and even certain cancers.
Blood Chemistry Panels
These panels assess organ function (such as liver and kidney health), blood sugar, electrolytes, protein levels, calcium, phosphorus, and pancreatic markers.
Electrolyte Testing
Monitoring sodium, potassium, and chloride levels is especially important when pets are dehydrated or losing fluids due to vomiting or diarrhea. Imbalances may require immediate treatment, including IV fluids or supplements.
SNAP Tests
Rapid Infectious Disease Screens
We offer on-the-spot testing for common infectious diseases, including:
🐾 Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV)
🐾 Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
🐾 Canine Parvovirus
🐾 Giardia
🐾 Leptospirosis
Coagulation Profiles
These tests are essential for identifying blood clotting issues, which may occur due to certain poisonings (like rodenticide ingestion) or advanced liver disease.
Microscopic Examination
Our team can analyze samples of blood, urine, ear swabs, skin scrapings, and fine needle biopsies onsite. These evaluations help detect skin infections, urinary conditions, parasites, and determine whether a mass may be benign or cancerous.
Clear Communication, Trusted Care
We know medical testing can feel overwhelming. That’s why we take time to walk you through each step, explain test results clearly, and ensure you’re fully informed before making any care decisions. Our goal is not just to diagnose your pet but to partner with you in providing the best possible outcome.
