Compassionate CareDuring Life’s Most Difficult Moments
Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. At Freed Veterinary Hospital, we understand how emotional and overwhelming this decision can be. Our team is here to support you with compassion, privacy, and respect, ensuring your pet’s final moments are peaceful and free from pain.
Before You Arrive
We know that every family’s wishes are different. When scheduling your appointment, we’ll take time to understand your preferences and answer any questions. We also strive to schedule euthanasia appointments during quieter times of day and offer access to a private entrance when possible.
We are always available to help you bring your pet inside if needed.
Your Presence During the Procedure
Whether you choose to be present for the entire procedure, only for sedation, or not at all, your decision will be fully respected. There is no right or wrong way to say goodbye we’re here to support you either way.
What to Expect
At check-in, we’ll ask you to review and sign a consent form and complete payment. Our team will then explain the steps involved and begin the process with a sedative to help your pet relax and feel no fear or pain.
Once your pet is resting comfortably, the veterinarian will administer the euthanasia injection (containing pentobarbital) through a vein. The effect is gentle and swift, similar to falling into a deep sleep.
Please be aware that after passing, your pet may experience natural bodily responses such as sighs, twitches, or vocalizations. These are involuntary and do not mean your pet is in distress.
Aftercare Options
We offer several options for aftercare, and we’re here to help you choose what feels right for your family:
Group Cremation
Ashes are not returned.
Private Cremation
Your pet is cremated individually, and ashes are returned in a decorative box. Additional urns and memorial items are available.
Home Burial
If legally permitted in your area, you may choose to bury your pet on your property.
Special Requests
If you have other wishes, we are happy to discuss how we can support them.
Our Euthanasia Policy
Please note that Freed Veterinary Hospital does not euthanize healthy animals, except in cases where the pet is deemed dangerous and unadoptable. This policy is firm and reflects our commitment to ethical, compassionate care.
We’re here to help you navigate this heartbreaking time with kindness and respect.
